![]() Our principles will be based on defense and rebounding the basketball. "Basketball-wise, we're not going to change much of what's been done here. "I've been preparing a long time to be a head coach at a major school," said Barnes, who has 18 years' experience in the college game, including eight seasons at the NCAA Division I level at Idaho, Utah State and Iowa State. The 42-year-old Barnes, who was associate head coach at Iowa State last season, will be a full-fledged college head man for the first time. I'm all set for the next 2 years at my job. And, just hours later, San Jose State athletic director Chuck Bell hired Steve Barnes, who was once a Floyd assistant at the University of Idaho, to replace Johnson. I got my first job offer at the end of class with the company I used for my 100W assignment, and two more during summer break. P/S: If you get 100W with an A+, you will nail every single interview or job application. Besides, we have librarian guests to show us how to get proper sources for research and prepare for future M.S. We had to make industrial standard group meetings and presentations to others as shareholders. He invited guest speakers and showed us how to do real-life informative interviews. He did a great job of making sure we had the proper resume and memo to send to the companies. Insight: I took 100W with professor John Leih. Why would you even want to do extra work? I will just complete whatever requirements for my major are, get my BS, and get the hell out! I need to make real cash! San Jose State University has a 100W class that is mandatory for all junior levels. As a transfer student in 2022 from San Jose City College, I barely have any knowledge about Raven, but they did make it seem easy and life-changing. I already had 16 credits of classes at SJSU + a part-time job. Now I don't even have to think about it in the first place. I'm glad that I looked this up before even considering it from Discord, Alumni, and here on Reddit. The post was from 2 years ago, but it is very accurate. Sure there is some busy work that isn't entirely useful, which is especially frustrating when you're taking a full class load (I was too), but all in all I thought Braven was a good use of my time. I was able to leverage my capstone project - among other things - to score an internship later on. I got to go on a tour of a large tech company and meet the product manager of an app I've used for 10+ years. My leadership coach was fucking awesome and I still ask him for advice on occasion. There is a ton of other things I enjoyed about it. Lastly, to your point about the curriculum being fairly straight forward regarding resumes and looking for jobs Braven prides itself in helping first-generation college students, students from low-income backgrounds, and students of color who may not necessarily have those skills yet. The small things you learn honestly go a long way. Hell, I used the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) method last week during my yearly review to explain the impact I've had at my company. For example, I found modules on interviews & telling your story to be rather useful. ![]() Second, Braven places a lot of importance on soft skills that aren't often taught and gives you opportunities to practice them in a safe environment before going into the real world. I still talk to one or two off them now, in fact, one just got engaged! That was invaluable on a purely social level, because I didn't know anyone at that point, but also it was motivating to be around people who wanted to succeed. My breakout group of 5-7 people were pretty close and hung out regularly outside of class. ![]() Full disclaimer, their curriculum may have changed since then and it is no doubt a different experience with COVID, but I found it helpful in a variety of ways.įirst off, as a transfer student it was a great way to meet a diverse, yet like-minded group of people. Just going to provide my experience with Braven as a first semester transfer student back in Fall '16.
